B4C Concept Development

Hafsa is an articulate and intelligent sixteen year old living on an estate in Harringey, one of London's most deprived boroughs. As an intern working with the Youth on Youth media project, she wanted to look into the causes and effects of lack of motivation in her peers.

From this idea came B4C, a project that brings together a team of young people, supported by adult professionals and volunteers, that seeks to find answers and solutions to youth problems that are damaging them and our communities and costing the country billions.

In the B4C introductory video Hafsa and Ibrahim list some of the costs of youth crime, unemployment and disengagement and outline the project aims. Young people and adults watching the programme have been astounded by the figures and we believe that if adults and young people work together, we can turn the losses into positive initiatives.

There is no better time than the present to unite adults and young people in a positive and exciting common cause.  Youth unemployment is on the increase, youth services are in decline, and the future for young people looks bleak.

Aylesbury Youth Action Project - Day of Filming:

Hafsa (16), Solomon (14) and adult YoY professionals Daniel and Dominic, packed the cameras and took the train to Aylesbury on Tuesday 19th April 2011. Their mission was to interview young people and adult workers at this very pro-active youth project, to find out what they had to say about motivation.

For Hafsa and Solomon it was a rare trip into the country that they really enjoyed and learned a lot from. The interviewees were great and Project Manager, Simon Garwood felt strongly that young people have very bad press in the UK and hoped B4C would help publicise the amazingly positive stories about youth achievement that are never reported in the media. That's another issue we hope to address. So if you know anyone involved in youth broadcast, please give us a call.
